2021 is ringin’ in and as we look forward to a brighter, happier year, we also want to encourage all of you beautiful birthmothers to reach the new year with love and admiration for yourself. Choosing adoption is not an easy choice, but when you decide that it is the right choice for you, it takes courage and tremendous love to proceed.

I am a birthmother and I know from experience how the healing process goes after placement. I know that looking forward can be difficult, but I know that with time we can heal and make incredible lives full of happiness, hope, and love.

Whether you have been part of the birthmother culture for 30 years or 30 days, the new year can spark a renewed sense of vigor and excitement in you. I am setting new goals for myself this year and feeding my world full of inspiration to live a full and healthy life. Placing a child for adoption was not an end to my life. It was a path that led me to my authentic selves and gave me the opportunity to grow tremendously.

Let me share some New Year’s Resolutions I am setting to make 2021 miraculous for me.

7 New Year’s Resolutions For Birthmothers Who Want To Reach Their Highest Potential

1. Don’t Brush Off The Idea Of Therapy Too Quickly – As a birthmother who has two unique and very different open-adoption relationships, I can tell you that therapy is a game-changer. I have used therapy to understand some of the struggles and fears that adoptive parents go through after adoption and to understand my own emotions. I have learned to release guilt and shame (that I have to say should 100% not be stamped on birthmothers), and that the placement of my children was not the end of my adoption journey. Therapy is not limited to those suffering from mental illness or tragedy. It is a tool open to any person who wants to grow in life. My resolution is to remember this!

2. Make A Commitment To Act With LoveAdoption happens through the most unconditional love and selflessness – the same should apply to how you treat yourself. You are a vessel of the most astonishing love, share it with yourself. Remind yourself that you are an inspirational, courageous, and powerful woman.

3. Try Something You Have Never Done – is there something you have always wanted to do or to try? Have you been enamored with quilting but never picked up a needle and thread? Maybe learning a new language sounds exotic and fun, or perhaps you want to travel overseas. Whatever it is you want to do – set a goal and a deadline to do it. Try it this year. Stagnation is the key to death – even when you are alive. Change is required for growth and movement. Get out there and do something real and new today!

4. Journal, Journal, Journal – Oh my gosh! Journaling is the best! Not only is it a relief to get words out of your head, but journaling can help you uncover emotions you may not be aware of. Typically, when I journal, I end up writing about things that I have completely forgotten about. The emotions whirl in and my body feels like a weight has been lifted. It is an amazing healing method and super easy.

These are just a few of the items on my resolution list this year. I have already implemented a few of them and I am excited about the new ones. Whether you are ringing in the New Year in Nevada, Arizona, or Utah – just know that Premier Adoption is nearby, and we are so honored to be part of the journey that women take when they choose adoption. We have tremendous love and respect for you all.

Have a safe and beautiful New Year! Make 2021 the best until the next!!
